INTERNAL PTERYGOID MUSCLE

Also known as the internal pterygoid muscle or musculus pterygoideus medialis which raises (closes) the lower jaw. It originates from the pterygoid fossa of spenoid and the tuberosity of maxilla. It inserts at the medial surface of the mandible between the angle and the mylohyoid groove. It is supplied by the third division of the trigeminal nerve.
