Align Technology Expands Clear Aligner Research Award Program to Include International Funding

SAN JOSE, California – Align Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq:ALGN) today announced that it has expanded its funding of the Clear Aligner Research Award Program to include international research in order to further the development of clear aligners for the treatment of malocclusion, or misalignment of teeth worldwide. Launched initially in 2009 for North America, the Clear Aligner Research Award Program is an annually funded program designed to promote both clinical and scientific research in clear aligner therapy. For 2011, $50,000 is now being made available for scientific research funding to international applicants in addition to $100,000 currently available to North American applicants.

Align Technology to Offer Invisalign® Treatment to Patients Impacted by OrthoClear Settlement

SANTA CLARA, California – Align Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: ALGN), the inventor of Invisalign®, a proprietary method of straightening teeth without wires or brackets, today announced that it will make Invisalign treatment available to patients affected by Align's recent litigation settlement with OrthoClear, Inc., a competing provider of clear removable aligner therapy. Under the terms of the settlement, OrthoClear has agreed to stop the importation of aligners into the United States and, subject to OrthoClear shareholder approval, discontinue all aligner business operations worldwide. As a result, current OrthoClear patients may not be able to complete their orthodontic treatment with OrthoClear. Align has offered to help minimize treatment disruptions for these patients and their doctors by making Invisalign treatment available to OrthoClear patients at no additional charge from Align.
