Multnomah Dental Society Receives ADA Foundation Award To Help Improve Children's Dental Care
The Grant money will be used to provide urgent dental care as well as whole body healthcare resources directly into neighborhoods of those in the most need of assistance. The annual Children’s Dental Health Fair brings together representatives from the private and public sector in a project that provides free dental and medical screenings and education to a vulnerable segment of our community’s population who would otherwise go without. The Fair will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at Lynch View Elementary School in Portland. Through the use of volunteer dentists and heath care providers, we hope to enhance and promote dental health by providing care to at least 200 disadvantaged children.
The Multnomah Dental Society represents more than 500 dentists in the Multnomah County area and is affiliated with the Oregon Dental Association and the American Dental Association.
“We are very pleased to have been selected from the hundreds of worthy applicants to receive funding from ADAF’s Samuel Harris Fund,” says Lora Mattsen, Executive Director of MDS. “We look forward to applying these funds to our program that will help improve the dental health of children in our local community.”
Harris Fund Established to help prevent childhood tooth decay
Established by the ADAF to prevent childhood tooth decay, the Harris Fund is a permanent endowment and received generous support from the Colgate-Palmolive Company. Each year, grants up to $5,000 go to educational and preventative programs seeking to improve children’s dental health. This year, 73 programs received funding nationally out of more that 440 submitted applications. They totaled $325,000.
