The WOHD awards
FDI relies on the power of local and national campaigns to activate WOHD globally. Empowered by a common goal to reduce the burden of oral diseases, the oral health community comes together year after year to organize free dental check-ups, school activities, educational lectures, awareness walks, flash mobs, and more in the name of WOHD.
FDI created the WOHD awards in 2015 to recognize the work of dental students organizing events and activities across the world in celebration of 20 March. Students have proved to be some of the biggest WOHD enthusiasts and have successfully implemented campaigns at the local and national level to promote oral health awareness.
Now in 2018, FDI is opening the WOHD awards to National Dental Associations and the general public – and will continue to recognize dental students. The prize includes travel and accommodation to attend the FDI World Dental Congress (5-8 September in Buenos Aires, Argentina), recognition during the WOHD launch session at Congress, and take-home WOHD merchandise to use in future campaigns.
How to participate?
The WOHD awards are divided in five categories. For FDI Members, e.g. National Dental Associations, the two categories are: Most educational activity and Best media campaign. For dental student organizations (members of the International Association of Dental Students), the two categories are: Most original activity and Best social media campaign. For the public, i.e. all groups and individuals not associated with FDI, the category is: Best branded photo.
After 20 March, FDI will evaluate activity reports received from members and student associations and will be considered for the WOHD awards. FDI members and student associations are therefore highly encouraged to submit their activity reports soon after WOHD. As for the public, FDI will evaluate all activities submitted to the WOHD global events map. Participants are also advised to submit their activity reports soon after WOHD, as evaluations close a month after 20 March.

The WOHD Poster Customization App, along with all campaign materials, is available in English, French and Spanish, to empower people to take care of their oral health to protect their general health, available in three formats: poster, Facebook cover photo and Twitter header. More resources yet to come in February include social media assets and a media guide. The WOHD video will be released in March, so stay tuned for new tools to help you get involved and check the WOHD website regularly for updates.
