American Dental Association Names New Legal Affairs Chief

CHICAGO, Illinois – The American Dental Association (ADA) has announced the appointment of J. Craig Busey as its Chief Legal Counsel, with responsibilities for managing the organization's Division of Legal Affairs.

"We are extremely pleased that Craig will be leading our legal affairs efforts," said Kathleen O'Loughlin, D.M.D., ADA executive director. "We look forward to his many contributions as we continue our efforts in helping improve the nation's oral health, assisting our members in their practices, and strengthening that important bond between dentists and their patients."

Prior to the ADA, Busey served as general counsel of the American Dietetic Association, a position he held since 2003. While there, his responsibilities included all legal issues for the 70,000-member association. Prior to that appointment, Busey served as a senior litigation counsel for United Airlines, managing various pieces of litigation and providing counseling in antitrust, consumer protection, regulatory compliance, and other areas of the law, including issues arising from the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

He began his career as an associate, rising to partner with the Chicago law firm of McDermott, Will & Emery. He earned his J.D. degree from the Northwestern University School of Law, as well as a B.A. in English from Northwestern University. His memberships include the American Bar Association and the American Society of Association Executives.

He and his wife live in the Chicago area.
