AGD Member Receives Humanitarian Award Andrew C. Cobb, DDS, received the 2008 Small Business Humanitarian of the Year Award. Dr. Cobb received the award, along with two other colleagues, for his work in the Dominican Republic through the Somos Amigos Medical Missions. The award is presented by the Small Business Council of America.
AGD Past President Honored in Texas Sam W. Rogers, Jr., DDS, FAGD, AGD past president and speaker of the house, was presented with the 2008 Gold Medal for Distinguished Service by the Texas Dental Society (TDA) at this year’s American Dental Association (ADA) House of Delegates. Dr. Rogers served as a leader not only in the AGD, but also in the TDA and the ADA. The 2008 Gold Medal for Distinguished Service award is the highest honor one can achieve at the TDA. AGD Spokesperson Cindy Flanagan, DDS, FAGD, was recently featured in the Houston Press in an article, “Protect Your Teeth—And the Troops.” Dr. Flanagan was recognized for her Halloween Buy Back program which paid $1 per pound of candy and a free toothbrush to children who turned in their goodies. The candy collected was shipped to Operation Gratitude’s headquarters in California and sent to troops serving overseas.

Change in Membership Policy: Recognizing Your Dedication AGD members average 47.3 hours of continuing education per year based on AGD existing data. That’s almost double the requirement for AGD membership and is just one of the reasons why it was agreed in July to change the membership maintenance policy to reflect your true dedication to lifelong learning. Now, AGD will simply ask that you confirm, via signature, your commitment to meeting, or more likely exceeding, the 75 hours of continuing education in a three year period that is required for AGD membership.
