William J. Walsh, an expert on dentistrys impact on the environment and a consultant to the American Dental Association (ADA), testified before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reforms Subcommittee on Domestic Policy, chaired by Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio), at a hearing on "Assessing State and Local Regulations to Reduce Dental Mercury Emissions." Representing the ADA, Mr. Walsh told the subcommittee that dentistry contributes a very small amount of the mercury in wastewater, the ADA and its members are taking every reasonable step to further minimize that impact and that government mandates are not necessary.
