| | Faced with a horrific level of disease, the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium expanded the Alaska Community Health Aide Program (CHAP) several years ago to include dental health aides, who would provide a variety of services in underserved areas. The ADA supports the Dental Health Aide program, with the exception of one component: the use of dental health aide therapists (DHATs)—to perform irreversible surgery that no non-dentist should perform. |

| | New York State regulations require that all dental facility waters likely to come in contact with amalgam waste must be treated prior to discharge by an amalgam separator. This form is intended to provide a consistent format for dentists to satisfy this one-time reporting requirement. Follow-up reporting by dentists is only required when new separators are placed in service. Dentists may complete and submit a copy of this form to satisfy the reporting requirement. Alternatively, dentists may use another format which is consistent with the requirements specified in 6NYCRR 374-4. |

| | The business plan comprises key strategies in the areas of education, clinical practice and service, and research. One of the strategies for education was to start a BSc program in dental hygiene, which was accomplished in September 2000. In completing the business plan, we learned the importance of identifying clear goals and ensuring that the goals are reasonable and achievable; gaining access to high-quality data to support planning; and nurturing existing positive relationships with external stakeholders such as the provincial government and professional associations. |

| The American Dental Association (ADA) is suing one of the nation's largest health care companies, WellPoint Health Networks Inc., and its wholly owned subsidiary, Blue Cross of California, charging the health care conglomerate with breach of contract, unlawfully interfering with the dentist-patient relationship and trade libel.
The class-action lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois on behalf of the ADA and its members, seeks relief under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) for breach of contract, and under supporting state laws for tortious interference and trade libel. Three practicing dentists joined the ADA in the suit.
