X-Rite Expands into Dental Industry with New Vision System

GRANDVILLE, Michigan – X-Rite, Incorporated (NASDAQ:XRIT), a leading global provider of systems and processes that measure color, light and shape, announced today that it is expanding into the dental market with a significant technological advance in restorative tooth shade matching.
The dental industry has long sought an accurate method of measuring and communicating the color and appearance of teeth. In the past, dentists and lab technicians have relied on the subjectivity of the human eye to determine tooth shade in restorative work. Human vision is influenced by many uncontrolled factors resulting in current shade matching techniques being inaccurate and inconsistent. X-Rite's new system allows the laboratory to use a precise color image of the patient's teeth to make a closely matching prosthesis. Poor color match is costly to both the dentist and the laboratory and disruptive to good patient care. This system improves patient care by replacing the subjective selection of tooth color with an accurate measurement. There are in excess of 700,000 practicing dentists worldwide, many of whom practice where patient interest in restorative procedures to improve the appearance of their teeth is growing dramatically.

"X-Rite has a long tradition of improving complicated workflow processes, such as the creation of a well matched ceramic crown allowing a pleasing smile," explains Rich Cook, President and CEO. "Patient care will be improved while cost is reduced using this innovative vision system. Dental professionals will now be able to achieve a new level of patient satisfaction using this internally developed technology and market application. We believe this market will be the largest we serve within the next three years."
