Sulzer Calcitek Introduces The Spline™ Twist™ Machined and Microtextured Titanium Self-Tapping Implants

CARLSBAD, California – Sulzer Calcitek Inc., a leading provider of dental implants and oral rehabilitation products, now offers dental clinicians more choices than ever, with the introduction of Spline Twist Ti™ and Spline Twist MTX™ self-tapping implants. These new members of the Spline dental implant family offer new implant design and surface options, in addition to the precision fit and high strength of the patented interface. Twist implants feature a new cutting design unique in the dental industry. Three spiral flutes around the base of the implant, similar to a twist drill, cut and move bone chips. The flutes direct bone chips up and away from the cutting edge for greater implant stability. Three cutting edges decrease lateral play and create a highly stable platform during insertion. The self-tapping feature of the Twist implants saves the clinician chair time by eliminating the need to surgically tap the site.

Twist Ti implants feature an unpolished, machined surface. Twist MTX implants feature a microtextured surface. This microtextured surface is created using technology with five years of clinical use in orthopedics. Microblast powder is used to produce a uniform1,2 micron textured surface, then a mild acid wash removes residual microblast powder. Research shows removal torque for rough surfaced implants was significantly greater after six weeks of implantation, which suggests a stronger mechanical bone interlock.1,2

Twist Ti and Twist MTX implants are manufactured of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy for greater strength. Available sizes include 3.75mm in 8, 10, 13, 15 or 18mm lengths, or 5.0mm diameter in 8, 10, 13 or 15mm lengths.
